Market Desk (Entertainment); Sir Elton John has quit Twitter. The ‘Rocket Man’ singer is the latest celebrity to leave the platform since it was purchased by Tesla tycoon Elon Musk and has blamed the site’s “change in policy” around misinformation for his departure.
In his final tweet, Elton wrote: “All my life I’ve tried to use music to bring people together. Yet it saddens me to see how misinformation is now being used to divide our world.
However, the company’s new CEO, Elon Musk, responded to Elton John’s departure from Twitter. “I love your music, hope you come back,” he tweeted. Is there any misinformation in particular that you are concerned about?’
About 1.1mn people followed Elton John on social media. However, Elton John did not delete his account despite announcing his retirement from Twitter. His account is as before. Maybe he won’t be seen posting any new post.
Elon John was preceded by Elon Musk’s one-time girlfriend Amber Heard, supermodel Gigi Hadid, author Shonda Rhimes and former White Stripes guitarist Jack White.
According to Twitter site, it stopped taking action against breaching its former coronavirus rules on 23 November. It had previously reported suspending more than 11,000 accounts for misinformation about the virus as of September, 2022.
