Iran Women named Time 2022 Heroes of the Year

The American news magazine Time has given special recognition to the contribution of women in the ongoing movement. The New York-based magazine announced the fearless Iranian women as ‘Heroes of the Year’.

The Iranian government has begun executing protesters. On Thursday (December 8), 23-year-old Mohsen Shekhari, a protester was hanged. Allegedly, The women were also accused of blocking the road.

At least 21 others have been charged that could lead to the death penalty, an AFP report said. On the other hand, on Tuesday (December 6), 5 persons were sentenced to death. However, these persons have the right to appeal.

Members of Iran’s security forces have been shooting protesters in the face and female genitalia, according to an investigative report by The Guardian. It claims to have spoken to 10 doctors and nurses treating injured protesters.

protests started across Iran. Young people from schools, colleges and universities came down on the streets. Girls took off their hijab and took to the streets and protested by cutting their hair.

From the beginning, the government suppressed the protests with a heavy hand. Various NGOs claim that around 5 hundred protesters have died so far. More than 14 thousand have been arrested.
