Google launches multipurpose “Wallet” and begun rollout

Market Desk (Tech): Google has begun rolling out multipurpose digital wallet that enables users to store, use and present credentials such as ID cards and health passes as well as payment cards, transit+event tickets and hotel keys in 39 countries across Europe, Americas and Asia.

It announced the new Wallet in May, 2022 and now started rolling out as update replacing Google Pay in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Ukraine, UAE and UK.

Such as, there is facility to save vaccine card, transit and event tickets, boarding and loyalty pass. These features are similar to Apple Wallet. However, Google Wallet has some additional benefits including integration with other Google apps such as Maps. The name Google Wallet may sound familiar.

In 2011, Google launched an app with the same name. That feature was later incorporated into Google Pay. Now most of the features of Google Pay app are being added to Google Wallet.

Rollout in Japan is also “coming soon”, according to Google.
