Market Desk: In a Buddhist temple in Thailand, experiments were conducted to find out whether monks took drugs or not. No one passed the test. So all the monks were sent to drug rehab centers. News from AFP
The temple is located in Bung Sam Phan District, Phetchabun Province, Central Thailand. There were four monks in total. On Monday, all of them were found to have methamphetamine in their bodies.
The four monks were stripped of their religious rites after they were found to be drug addicts. Bung Sam Phan district official Bonlert Thintapathi said there are no monks in the temple now. Locals are worried about how to perform religious rituals. However, the process of sending other monks to that temple is going on.
Drugs are readily available in Thailand. A tablet of methamphetamine is available on the street for 20 baht. According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, Thailand is one of the main routes for drug trafficking from Myanmar.
